Nutrition

At Fresh, our goal is to provide you with delicious and wholesome food. By wholesome, we mean good food that is made in-house, by hand, with the kind of recipes you would use at home. Our calories are good calories-the kind that satisfy and nourish. We are proud of the fact that our core menu is 100% plant based, with no cholesterol, animal fat, refined sugars, or artificial flavours and colours.

For those of you with specific health concerns requiring a closely monitored diet, we apologize that we do not have nutritional breakdowns of our menu items.

In Canada, it is not legally required for restaurants to have these analyses done. And in the U.S., only restaurants with 20 or more locations are required to have full nutritional details available, as the government recognizes that the compilation and maintenance of this information is too burdensome for individual establishments or small restaurant chains. The fact that the general public has come to expect this information to be available everywhere just shows how much of the marketplace is commanded by huge food and restaurant companies.

We are an open book, literally. Most of our recipes are published, and if you would like to see any that aren't in our cookbooks, simply email and we will send you any recipe you require. You can take a look at exactly how we make our food and decide for yourself if it fits into your dietary requirements. We have no secrets.

While our food is house-made, wholesome and natural, our portions are generous, and we have come up with many ways for you to customize how large a meal you require, and the resulting calories and fat. Here are some ordering tips:
  • adjust the ratio of ingredients in any dish: for example, getting less rice or soba and more vegetables in any Fresh bowl, or fewer nuts & seeds and more sprouts in a salad.
  • order any sauce or dressing on the side.
  • order a baby version of select Fresh bowls.
  • take home any leftovers in our fully compostable take out containers. Many people like to order a full size Buddha or an All-Star for lunch and have the leftovers for dinner.
  • order any wrap without the tortilla, on a bed of lettuce instead.

At Fresh we buy plant-based food and cook it up the same way you would at home, just in larger quantities. We want you to embrace the joy of eating again, safe in the knowledge that all of our menu items are made from whole foods. We trust that your common sense and intuition will guide you towards deciding what to eat on any given day. Everyone knows eating french fries or onion rings every day is not good for you. We don’t need a chart to tell us that. But once in a while is fine. Enjoy!

We have no secrets. Most of our recipes are published in our cookbooks, and for those that aren’t, we’d be happy to share them with you so you can check it out for yourself. Let’s go back to the days when we trusted ourselves to know what to eat, and give ourselves the freedom to enjoy it!
